Nu Sass Pre-Professional Workshop

An online pre-professional program running from April 25th – May 30th
Live Performance on Zoom: May 30th at 7:00 PM

The Nu Sass Pre Professional program provides students the opportunity to work in a professional setting while receiving training and support to build their careers. Each show cycle includes one-on-one coaching, workshops led by theater professors and working artists, and a fully realized show open to the public. Opportunities are available for actors as well as design-technicians.

BIOS

Gigi Beeson - She/Her (Tash, CoHost) Gigi is fifteen years old, and has just finished ninth grade.  This is her first time doing a virtual production. She has been acting since she was three years old, when she played the Angel Gabriel in nursery school, and at six, Rumplestiltskin at primary school. She has been part of small Shakespere plays and other school productions. Gigi completed some of the LAMDA drama exams, and acted on other occasions outside school. Gigi’s first full theatre production was in sixth grade, when she played Tinkerbell in Peter Pan Junior the musical. She went on to act in other plays in middle school, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, playing a striking portrayal of Helena, and portraying Antigone in a Roman Amphitheatre, while on a school trip to Italy. In ninth grade she was casted for the role of the devilish Lucy in the one act play Park Bench, acting out as the devil, alongside God. And she also played a hilarious pirate in Generation Pan

Sabine DuMoulin - She/Her (Neima) is excited to perform in 10 Ways to Survive Life in a Quarantine. She has had lots of fun partaking in this new type of show. She has previously done Freaky Friday, Bedbugs, some one-acts, and quite a few other shows and musicals. Along with acting, she enjoys dance, photography, and she is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She wants to thank her family for encouraging her to do this show and her friends who are doing the show with her. Most of all, she would like to thank Allie and Moriah for putting together such an amazing show despite the situation we are in.

Nina Howe-Goldstein - She/Her (Designer)  is a longtime designer at the Field School, where she is a junior. She has designed costumes, set, or understudied for almost 20 school shows, and last year designed costumes for Nu Sass's production of Dead Dog's Bones.

Faith Handwerger - She/Her (Peter) is a rising junior at The Field School. She has been in multiple shows including Seussical Jr., The Philadelphia, Generation Pan, etc. She started acting at Longfellow Middle school with Steve Bantle. She then worked on a performance in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has taken her acting career to a new level by taking part in 10 Ways to Survive Quarantine. She would like to thank Bruce Holemes, Veronica Handwerger, and everyone else who has helped take part in her acting career. 

Turner Heeb - He/Him (Toby, Andrew) is a seventeen year old junior at Field. While this is his first professional experience, he has been in theater classes since middle school. Aside from theater, he enjoys puzzles as well as interacting with his two cats. 

Alice Hockstader - She/Her (Torrance) is an 11th grader at The Field School. She is playing the role of Torrance. Previously, Alice has directed The Philadelphia and The Fount of Inspiration and has acted in many shows including Freaky Friday and The Battle of Bull Run Always Makes Me Cry. Alice has also been a playwright and dramaturg. Thank you to Allie for letting me act during this crazy time.

Arden Hoehn-Saric - He/Him (Marvin Benoit) He has previously performed as part of the ensemble in the Field School’s Freaky Friday last year, played the part of Peter Pan in the Field School’s Generation Pan, and has taken filmmaking and acting classes at Imagination Stage in the past. Arden is currently in drama classes at the Field School. Outside of theater, Arden loves to play board and card games and play guitar.

Susanna Hubacker - She/Her (Alison, Andi)  is so excited to be performing in this one of a kind show! Past credits include Little Mermaid (Ensemble) and Mamma Mia (Ensemble/Featured vocalist) at Imagination Stage, Barnum (Charity) and Hercules (Muse) at Creative Summer, and Beauty and the Beast (Belle) in North Bethesda Drama. She was supposed to perform in the Acting Conservatory performance of The Witches (Grandmother), and Frozen Jr (Elsa) at North Bethesda. She hopes you enjoy this truly unique show, stay safe, stay inside, and wash your hands!

Wylde Laden - She/Her (Ella, Pascal) is very excited to be making her Zoom debut! Previous roles include Truvy in Steel Magnolias and Karl Carlson in Freaky Friday. In her free time, Wylde enjoys tap dancing, stage managing, and playing frisbee. She would like to thank her whole family, but especially her cats(!), for always putting up with her antics.

Emma McDonnell - She/Her (Reagan, Jeff) is excited to be joining Nu-Sass’s pre professional program’s production of 10 Ways to Survive Life in a Quarantine. Some of her past credits include Ariel in The Little Mermaid Jr, Winnifred in Mary Poppins Jr, and French boy/ ensemble in Flight of the Lawnchair Man. She would like to thank everyone involved for making all our quarantine experiences a little bit better during these strange times.  

Leland McIntosh - She/Her (Jolene) is a sophomore at the Field School. She has been inside the theatre since she was 11, her first show being a production of Oliver! at Long Lake Camp for the Arts. Her most recent performance was the Field School Internship Production of Generation Pan (Margaret). Aside from theater, Leland enjoys playing harp and plays in the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras and harp ensemble. She would like to thank her family for always supporting her artistic endeavors.

Olivia Pham - She/Her (Anna): Olivia Pham is a rising freshman at the Field School.  She has been in many school productions such as Willy Wonka Jr. and A Midsummer's Night Dream.  As well as smaller productions throughout elementary school.  She loves taking theater courses in and outside of school.  She also enjoys seeing professional productions when she can to learn more about professional theater.  When she isn’t acting Olivia will draw, spend time with her dog, or sew clothes.  

Charles Rowe - He/Him (Jamal) is 15 years old and in tenth grade at the Field School. Currently he is in theater class at school, and was also in the play Generation Pan as the character Mr. Duck. At his Church he takes part yearly in a Musical, where he usually plays a side character, if that character is even named at all. This also requires some singing, as it is a musical. In school he is also a part of a Study Hall group dedicated to making a movie throughout the entire year and is the creator of the score, assistant director, and actor playing the main villain in the movie. Regarding my more personal life in the performing arts, it is my main goal in life to be a writer, as I enjoy making and perfecting stories as a craft very much. I currently have five stories in my mind to create. I also enjoy making music on a website that I can use to write my own music with many different varieties.

Miriam “Miri” Rozanski - She/Her (Lou, Cameron) is so excited to perform in 10 Ways to Survive Life in a Quarantine! Miri made her theatre debut at age six as the titular Gingerbread Girl in the play The Gingerbread Girl. Her other shows and roles outside of The Field School include The Wizard of Oz (Rainbow Ensemble), You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (Sally Brown), Noah’s Ark (Narrator), A Purim Spiel (Queen Esther), A Doll’s House (Emmy Helmer), and The Callback (Emily). At The Field School, Miri has been in a multitude of shows, including The Incredibles (Helen Incredible), Reconnected (Emma), Inside the Department of the Exterior (Woman), Murder on the Eastern Shore (Detective Marble), The Thief (Sandy), and Generation Pan (Sculpt). Miri has been spending her quarantine drawing, writing, and obsessing over her OTPs.  Miri would like to thank her directors Allie Heiman and Moriah Whiteman for allowing her to take part in this show! 

Anastasia Schneider - She/Her (Sahra, Rachel) is a freshman at the Field school. Her prior theater experience has grown to include being a part of the Field Schools internship show Generation Pan (Reese Austen), the Field schools student production one acts; Park Bench (Grace), and her Musical theater's production of Lizzie, recreated  for radio drama (Bridget). She has also been in the Round House Theater Young Artist Performance Company's productions of The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza (Narrator, Therapist, Eurydice, King Menalaus), Tartuffe (Orgon), and The Phantom Tollbooth (Mathematician, Ensemble), as well as Takoma Park Middle School's production of Peter Pan (Pirate #2). Her interests include singing, Shakespeare, movies, Starkid shows, and most recently, The Flash (although she has always been obsessed with it, and has been re-watching it during quarantine). She would like to thank everybody in the production for making quarantine a bit more bearable. 

Ash Todd - She/Her (The Host, Uder) is excited to make her Zoom debut in 10 Ways to Survive Life in a Quarantine. She is thrilled to partake in this new theater experience. Previously, she has acted in the play Consider the Lilies, the musicals Freaky Friday, Les Mis, Spamalot, and has participated in a performance of individual monologues. Aside from acting, she enjoys many different arts and sciences. She would like to thank her family for always supporting her and encouraging her as she continues to explore the world of theater.  She would also like to thank everyone who worked on this performance for being so amazing and creating such a wonderful show. 

Grace Wang - She/Her (Designer) is a junior at The Field School. She has been involved in theater for seven years doing work for school productions as well as Imagination Stage student shows. At Field, she is a scenic designer and technical director. She loves to play ultimate frisbee! In college she plans to study either technical theater or athletic training/kinesiology/emergency medicine. Grace is a big believer in sensory friendly theatre. 

Allie Heiman - She/Her (Director) is a DMV-grown teacher and theater artist. During the school year she teaches and directs at The Field School in Washington, DC, and spends her summers directing at Holton Arms Creative Summer in Bethesda, MD. Locally she has worked in various capacities for Nu Sass Productions, Edge of the Universe Players 2, The Welders, Flying V, and theBridge at Levine School of Music. Allie approaches all her projects from a viewpoint of creative collaboration, gorgeous moments, and fun times, living for that moment of "click", when all the collaborators in the room are on the same page and the art flows.

Aubri O’Connor - She/Her (Producer) is a co-founder and the Artistic Director for Nu Sass Productions. She has been performing and producing in DC since her first play premiered at the 2009 Capital Fringe Festival. She is awed and deeply proud of the work her company members and the students have been doing, and is excited for this new chapter in our company history.

Moriah Whiteman- She/Her (Asst. Director, Education Director) is a proud Nu Sass Co-conspirator.  She has appeared in The Ugly One and 50 Ways to Date Your Aubri with Nu Sass Theatre, as well as with several other DC Theatre Companies.  She is a professor of Acting and Movement at Northern Virginia Community College where she has directed Sylvia, Eurydice, and Waiting for Lefty.  As an educator, Moriah is committed to theatre that is exploratory, immersive, and blurs the line between spectator and participant.  All humans are makers.
