AUDITION FOR NU SASS

  • Nu Sass works to support marginalized genders in the arts in DC, and works to provide a safe, accessible working space for our team. We are proud to be an entry point into professional theatre for those often denied access to do age, race, gender, or sexuality.

  • Nu Sass employs gender-blind casting and anti-discrimination hiring. 

  • Marginalized gender encompasses any non-cis male identities.

  • Nu Sass follows the Not In Our House guidelines.

We are accepting in person and video auditions. Video auditions are due by Wednesday, December 10, 2025

In person auditions will be held by appointment only at Nu Sass Theatre

Monday, December 8, 2025 from 6:30p-10:30p
and
Thursday, December 11, 2025 from 6:30p-10:30p
Callbacks will be held in person on Wednesday, August 17 from 6:00p-11:00p at Nu Sass Theatre.

First read is scheduled for mid January based on team availability.

Performances are scheduled for 16 - 20 evenings and weekends April 17 - May 10, 2026

AUDITION DETAILS

  • 1 minute contemporary monologue and read from one of the sides we will send when confirming your slot.

  • If submitting a video, you may have a reader off screen, or on a zoom recording with you (make sure you keep the screen set to only you).

  • These do not need to be professional videos - you can use your phone in a quiet room. We are interested in your presentation, not your background or lighting setup.

  • You can share you video via link, like youtube or vimeo, or a link to a folder that contains the file.

Rehearsals: Evening and weekends, based on availability, no more than 3 times a week before tech. Holidays off.
Performance Dates: TBD based on team availability, opening April 17, closing May 9, 2026. Between 16 and 20 performances.
Performance Location: 1100 H St NW, Washington, DC (Metro Center). ADA accessible.


NU SASS SEEKS THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERS

  • Leads will receive an $700 stipend.

  • Understudies/Swings will receive a $400 stipend

  • We can only accept non-equity applicants

KORE: non-black (maybe white but maybe not) trans woman. Works as a receptionist somewhere blandly non-descript. Late 20s-early 30s. A Scorpio. She/her  

JULIAN: non-binary lesbian social worker. Open race ethnicity. Kore’s partner. Late 20s-early 30s. A Taurus. They/them.  

DANTE: brown trans masc anarchist barista.  Late 20s-early 30s. A Cancer. He/they 

MICHAEL: a gay black man who died in 1989 in KORE’s apt. Died in his late 20s/early 30s. Also a Scorpio. He/him.  

RONALD REAGAN AS A DEMON: what it says on the tin. Once Ronald Reagan. Now a demon. Performing as the most fascinating, disgusting, and calculated Drag Queen you’ve ever seen. He says he doesn’t have pronouns.
